I liked the story and art but this deluxe edition features new coloring and the new coloring makes a great graphic story even better.

The Killing Joke is an exceptional piece of literature. Just looking at the cover tells you almost immediately what you're in for (something something, don't judge book by it's cover), but even then it gives so much more. I knew going in that this was highly regarded by many as one of, if not the, greatest Batman stories. This graphic novel is rich with atmosphere and saturated in beautiful imagery.What really sets it apart is how mature and well told the story is. The very first dialogue sets the scene for the whole book: what's going to happen between Batman and the Joker? They've been playing the same game for years and years, but when will it end, and how? Before now, we never had any reason to sympathize with the Joker. The Joker has always been an incredibly interesting and fun character, but the audience didn’t know what drove him, or even what drove him mad. Revealing his backstory is one-shot deal; you either please fans universally or lose all of their faith depending on how the story is told. But The Killing Joke nails it with flying colors.Speaking of colors, The Killing Joke is rife with fantastic images and finely-crafted spectacles. Open it to any page, and you’ll find something iconic or stylistic. Every panel is given such a painstaking attention to detail, and that kind of dedication and consistency is one of the major selling points. These are the images that’ll stick with you well after you put the book down because of how they pop out of the page. When you see that first image of the Joker truly going mad, you feel it. It’s not “oh look the joker is laughing and totally losing his mind, sucks to be him golly gee,” it’s “That’s it! That’s the point of no return! He’s gone and I feel like I was right there next to him!” (Okay that was a little corny, I won’t do that again, promise). And that’s not the only one that sticks out: Joker in a hawaiian t-shirt holding a cocktail, Joker on a throne of baby dolls, Joker looking solemnly at an old broken carnival machine.Now, you might’ve noticed a pattern there. “But where’s Batman?” Y’see, Batman has had thousands of comics, movies, books, and video games dedicated to his story and his experiences. We know his backstory as though it’s mythology. But until now, we didn’t know Joker. Batman even says so in the graphic novel. And now that the Joker’s finally gotten his spotlight, a true telling of his story, there’s no need to go any further. Sure, we could ask for more novels about Joker’s experiences, but this is the only one that needed to be about the Joker. This is the story about how his life got flip-turned upside down (sorry). All the ones after this one, he’s already insane and we don’t learn anything really new. But here we see it all through his eyes. It doesn’t need a sequel. In fact I hope it never gets a sequel. There’s nothing more to tell with this story, especially with how it ends. The Killing Joke is an exceptional piece of literature.

Before reading The Killing Joke, I've ready V for Vendetta and Watchmen. Both are other graphic novels written by Alan Moore. I had no idea what to expect, but a friend of mine did call this (in his opinion) the greatest graphic novel of all time. I think it's damn near close to it.The Good:I love Batman. Doesn't matter where he is. Nolan movies? Arkham series? Comics? They're all awesome, so of course I was gonna love Batman in this story too. The joker is also a stand out character obviously. I hate to love the joker because he's that awesomely terrible. It's amazing. This story isn't so much about Batman fighting bad guys as it is about proving the joker wrong. "All it takes is one bad day." Well does it? Batman (and Gordon) are pushed to their limits as they not only try to stop the joker, but prove him wrong. By the end of the story, you wonder who TRULY won that night. I won't give any spoilers, but the ending does make you wonder. You see what I mean? It's psychologically complex and disturbing. It really makes worry about the outcome of ALL the characters. One thing I liked from another comic, Batman: Hush, was the use of other DC characters to progress the story, but I really liked how The Killing Joke told another amazing story with less character in less pages. I also really like that short story after the end of the main story. I'm glad it was there.The Bad:There really isn't all that much bad. I mean I would have loved for it to be longer, but I still enjoyed it for what it is. That's really my only complaint. It just a little too short, and I wanted to keep on reading.Final Verdict:I don't know if it's the greatest graphic novel of all time, but I loved it and I think everyone else who reads it will love it too. I mean I read the whole thing is one sitting in less than an hour. I literally could not put the book down. BUT! There's a lot of very disturbing moments in the story, so know what you're getting yourself into. I mean the animated movie adaption for this book is rated R!

Top to bottom an incredible book here.The artwork is top notch, ink is amazing, Bolland does a great job with expressions, allowing the characterizations really shine through the pictures. Also did a great job with making the body language add to the story. I also loved the little details in some of the panels, like little story in the background of the bar scene in one of the flashbacks. My one VERY MINOR complaint would be that I wish joker was drawn with a little bit more grittiness to him. But that's just me, and don't get me wrong, some of his pictures have an absolutely incredible amount of depth, you can just see layer after layer of the character.The writing is as good as it gets. Joker gets a couple of "monologues", I just can't even describe them, they just blew my mind. The amount of insight Moore gives us into the joker trough the writing, wow, what a talented writer. Also, thanks to Heath Ledgers (rip) incredible performance, I read his lines in heath's voice, and it just came alive.This book is an absolute gem, Bolland and Moore play off one another to absolute perfection, one of the best comics I've ever read. I highly suggest it, if ur contemplating gettin it or not, or ur about $10 short on the free shipping, my advice is just get it. Really sets the standard in superhero comics.

Playing the Arkham video games by Rocksteady made Batman really stand out. While the game had a high tech batman it took from great stories like Killing Joke and after finishing the trilogy of games i had to read some comics about batman so i picked this up first and am happy i did. The joker is more than a villain in the games due to this graphic novel.It us shocking and I like the end about the everyman. Don't miss out. I am reading Dark Knight Returns after Watchman so i highly recommend this book.

Although I am not a biblical scholar, I do have a Master of Divinity from a top Catholic Theologate. This book will appeal to both the common reader and the scholar. It is extremely well researched yet easy to read. But easy to read does not mean easy to spiritually and emotionally reflect on. Your life will be impacted by reading this book. Even an atheist with any integrity would be left wondering "what kind of love is this?" Even after studying The Passion academically, I learned many new facts and insights from this book from a medical, theological and historical perspective. Be careful not to read this book if you want to keep your faith in a comfortable place. But if you are willing to read the historically documented facts as well as the medical facts of the crucifixion as you never have before, this account will never be forgotten. The physician author even discusses such things as how Christ's blood pressure was effected, and the clinical diagnosis of his pain experience. I will never forget this book!

The details of the crucifixion in the book are amazing, this book, it’s life changing. I have a much more understanding of history and the crucifixion. With his expert medical knowledge Dr. Kubala shed a new light on the crucifixion. It's heart wrenching to think of the real mental and physical torture and suffering that Jesus endured for our salvation. I will read it multiple times, in fact, the book is so well written, I purchased 2 additional books for my parish priest.

This book is easy to read and very interesting. Dr. Kubala has done his research well and his synopsis of the history of the Jewish people and their kings was particularly educational for me. His history of those in power and their relationship to Jesus's execution was very revealing. I had never thought before of the cause of Jesus's death except he had died on the cross but as an emergency physician with over 40 years of experience in trauma I completely agree with Dr. Kubal's findings of Jesus's final cause of death. Dr. Kubala did an exceptional job on his research and theory of the crucifixion and death of Christ. The diagrams of the city and temple helps imagine more clearly how things were set up at that time. He explains the history of the times, the customs of the people, and the different levels of the government. With his expert medical knowledge he shed a new light on my previous thoughts of the crucifixion. It's heart wrenching to think of the real mental and physical torture and suffering that Jesus endured for our salvation. I will never think of the crucifixion in the same way again. I would highly recommend reading this book to everyone. It's life changing.

This book is amazing! It is perfect to read during Lent, but I read it over Advent & know that I will read again & again. I heard the author on Catholic radio & was intrigued with the ideas about Jesus’ crucifixion & about crucifixion in general. It offers important historical information about practices of Romans & Jews of the time that are invaluable to understanding exactly what Jesus endured. Highly recommend!

What an amazingly, enlightening detail of Christ's murder. Fear and greed were the perpetrators. This book has totally changed my perspective about the sacrifice He paid for me. I thank Dr. Kubala, my fellow parishioner, for his work he has shared with me - as I take this story very personally.

Easy & quick read. Holds one's attention. Medical terminology explained in easy to understand wording and explanations. Each suffering and torture well explained. I have read similar books on subject over the years and this is the best.

Dr Kubala takes the reader through the Passion as viewed through the eyes of a scientific medical expert, and explains it in plain English, bringing the medically curious layman into the understanding of what Jesus suffered through.

I have recently retired and decided to take up a new hobby--metal detecting--at the ripe old age of 63. I've done a lot of reading and watching videos on the topic in the past few weeks. This book is one of the best ones I've read for someone like me with no hands on experience--yet. It is very thorough, includes many recommendations on exactly which detectors and other accessories to buy, which was greatly appreciated. It also has many website links that I went through extensively. The book also goes beyond beginner level and gets into what I consider intermediate level nomenclature. In the past few days, I've literally ordered (from the internet) my first Detector, digging tools, belt pouch, pinpointing tool, and a number of other incidentals totally based on author, Tim Kerber's advice. After spending about $600, I'm anxiously waiting for all the equipment to arrive so I can break it all in come the end of this week. Tim covered the subject in a way that newbies and intermediate level detectorists will find an easy read while at the same time entertaining and easily understood. I can find only one person in my small town that is already metal detecting so I've had no one to lean on to make the learning process easier/quicker. Neither is there a club locally for this interest. With the wealth of information available through the internet though, I feel confident going to the next level and immersing myself in dirt fishing! Thanks Tim, for the great book. I'm using the heck out of it going back time and again studying details of what you had to say....

I purchased a detector mid fall of this year without much thought of there being a season for this hobby. I was only able to go out a couple of times before I had to pack everything in because of the cold. So now I'm spending my "hobby time" figuring out what to prepare for in the spring (I've committed, I can't think of anything else). This book answered most of the questions I had bouncing around in my head and highlighted some areas of the hobby that I will definitely take seriously when I get started. There is a great run down of equipment and how to use it, best times to go, lingo (so when we join that certain FB page we'll know what people are talking about) and plenty of practical advice. Without getting specific, during the couple of times I was able to go out this year I immediately started some bad habits that I will now know to correct when I *really* begin next year. I'll also have a more confident technique in looking for treasure. In a nut shell this book definitely set a standard for a solid beginners guide on everything from etiquette to life hacks that help with the hobby.

I have always had an interest in MD'ing, but not the time to give it a try. I recently ran in to a fellow on the Bitterroot river here in Montana, and was quite fascinated with listening to some of his finds and adventures. I purchased this book on my kindle, got about halfway through and started researching Metal Detectors. In addition to the fact that the author recommends the Garret AT Pro, so do many other folks. Also, I particularly wanted something I could take in the rivers and creeks without a worry. I received my MD today from Amazon, and plan to hit the boat launches on the Bitterroot tomorrow!As the title suggests, this book is truly for "Beginner & Beyond." Written in an enjoyable and very informative way, with Tim explaining the logic of the way he and his son operate through all aspects of the sport. Definitely glad that I bought this book. I will be ordering the hard copy to take with me to the field. Thanks for a GREAT job Tim.

Purchased this book on Amazon and received it on the day it was promised. I also bought another book on metal detecting at the same time and I will not mention the name of that book as it was a gross disappointment.Tim and Travis' book provides a wealth of information stated in simple layman's terms. I am a newcomer to the hobby of metal detecting but my knowledge expanded tremendously by reading this book. It includes everything from considerations about what equipment to buy to tips and advice on how to prepare and go on field trips. It covers terminology, what can be found, and what to do with items you have discovered. There are numerous illustrations that make their points much easier to understand.It is simple to understand and the numerous Internet links on all areas of metal detecting information is worth the investment by itself. Tim and Travis clearly did their homework before writing the book.

This is an amazing little book. I am brand new to detecting and after reading the manual and heading to the park a couple times I realized there is more to this than just turning it on and waving it across the ground. I got on Amazon and looked for books that would help. I loaded about thirty three bucks worth in my cart then saw this e-book for not much money. Being an e-book it would be instant information so I bought in. Other than the penny I found in the park, sort of by accident actually, this was my first found treasure. I bookmarked a bunch of pages, looked up all the links in the book and read nearly the whole thing in one sitting. I love the fact this book is on my phone at all times as a resource. Not just a one-time read for me. Written with knowledge and passion. Equipment choice, style and finding treasure are all covered here including a good list of online resources to guide you to the hot spots. That's very important. Buy this book, join a club, observe the rules then go out and respectfully dig for buried treasure.

This is a great book for beginners. And I must say, a great refresher for the expert .. it is fun to read. Ilike hom Tim includes his son ... Of course I think Tim cheated a bit by flagging his finds for his son to dig, ha, ha. I have been hunting seriously for around 8 years .. I have a Fisher F/70 .. F75 ... F2 .. Tim's book centers around the AT-pro by Garrett , but Tim is more about procedure and methods, not so much about machine settings and setup. All in all I like and enjoyed the read. Some good tips and when you start reading you will find the urge to go hunting. Thanks Tim
