The ComStar field manual is a useful roleplaying resource, with the unit histories similar to those found in all of the field manuals. I find that it is somewhat less useful than the others, if only because it tries to do too much. The book wastes space explaining 4 different organizational systems (Com Star, Star League, Rasalhague, and Clan). The other manuals had more focus, whereas this apears to be an attempt to throw in every reamining non-great house faction. Can't really blame FASA for that though, as Rasalhague and the SLDF had to get something, and surely dont deserve their own manuals (yet).. overall a sold product, and worth getting eventually, although i recommend picking up some of the others first if you dont really need the ComStar info for a campaign.

A good source book for discovering the who, and more importantly, the why of these quasi-religous technocrats, called Comstar. Often portrayed by author Stackpole as "evil," we see that Comstar is much like the great Houses of the Inner Sphere, with a political agenda for unifying the galaxy on its own. Great stuff on the Word of Blake faction too.

This field manual on Comstar is better than the older one that I do not have and I can not find. If you want to have an idea on what Comstar is doing, then, this is the field manual to have. It does try to do too much but it is very clear on what is about. Comstar is now part of the starleague.

Fasa has vastly improved they way the write RPG/tabletop reference material. In years past, reading a unit sourcebook (i.e. Jade Falcon source book) was alot like reading a scrap book combined with a unit roster from the civil war. But their new works, the Field Manuals, really does a excellent job fleshing out units, their history and their culture, Providing a solid base for game masters to build awesome plots on. I recommend this book to ALL Battletech players and fans.

I've purchased all of the Feild Manual series so far in print and find the Comstar one to be a excellent addition. It offers insites into the indivudual units that make up Comstar, Word of Blake, etc. Though I would have liked to see more unit history and the re-formation of Clan Nova Cat.

It should be noted that (FASA code 1655) is the Classic Battletech Comstar SOURCEBOOK (Detailing Comstar's history)not the later Comstar FIELD MANUAL(Which deals with Comstar/WoB's Military organisation.Hope that clears any confusion.

I have enjoyed all of the Field Manuals to date. This one tells us more about the new Star League army and the Rasalhague military than anywhere else. Best Comstar resource since the old Comstar manual.

Every bar, tavern, club and hall with a pool table (in the US) should have a copy of this on-hand. The horrendous inconsistence and outright ridiculousness of most local and house "rules", not to mention individual "rules", has made a sorry mess of recreational American pocket billiards. I can only hope that the REAL games of 8-ball, 9-ball, etc., become better known to amateur players over time, and that the bogus, corrupt, yokel variants of these games finally die off some day. Don't confuse this complete book, with rules for many games, with the BCA Pool League rule booklet, which only covers the league team versions of eight-ball and nine-ball.[UPDATE: This edition is now obsolete. As of Nov. 2013, the most current is the 2011 edition, but it does not seem to be available on Amazon. ]

I did my PhD in database in the early 80s. This book by W. Kent was around already and I heard about it but did not have a copy of it. Had I read the book, my research work would have been 10 times better. This current printing is the reprint of the original one. The author mentioned in the preface that he was asked to update the book but he didn't because he thought it was still up to date (and I absolutely agree).If you are in data modeling and database area, believe me, this is a must read. It is about the philosophy of data modeling and how data and reality are related. In my opinion, its content cannot be obsolete. It is technology independent. The concept of naming and identification alone is priceless for data modelers. I can't believe I have been working in the database area for more than 30 years without it.

This is an excellent introduction to the ambiguities that make designing a database difficult and some of the more philosophical aspects of designing databases. A lot of the historical detail is interesting for modern practitioners. I would strongly recommend trying to obtain an edition of this book other than the "third edition" which has been significantly modified by Steve Hoberman. I am in complete agreement with this review (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-reviews/RZUKQF8JV7DM3/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=1935504215). I would recommend attempting to get hold of an older edition, like this one, while emailing Penguin asking them for a new edition of the original book.

This book does bring a sense of "reality" to data and data modeling. The author provides a fresh perspective on data and data modeling without being dogmatic about which way is the best way to represent data. He exposes some of the subtle but critical factors which everyone working with data needs.His exposure and description of relationships and how to address them was enlightening.

Really interesting conceptual look at data modeling and defining entities

Some very important considerations for data modeling. Clearly explained with lots of good examples. William Kent does an excellent job of delving into the philosophy but always pointing back to the need to keep things practical for your use case. This will change the way you think about data and how it is represented.

Very helpful in understanding issues related to representing reality in machine-readable form.

I found this book following a reference from a Martin Fowler book.It's been a while since I read it, very interesting discourse on modelling data.

A study group book. Good discussion but everyone pretty much agreed it was too vague and out of date.
