I bought this journal for my highly sensitive grandson. He is often nervous about new experiences and trying new things, and so I thought I would give this a try. He is young, so either myself or his parents help him write what he wants to say and he enjoys picking the scary face that he feels and drawing a picture. It makes him feel good to get his feelings out and it helps us understand him better too!

This has been very helpful for my daughter who is highly sensitive and anxious. The journal is simple and effective in helping children express themselves.

This is a wonderful journal that would be useful for any child experiencing anxiety in their life. A great resource for anyone who works with children of any age. It would be a great tool in a school setting as well.

There really wasn't anything to this. I thought there would have been more insight and direction in this book.

Our SM daughter loves her new journal and is proud to write in it daily. It's fun to read her thoughts about different situations. Journal is well thought out, and very effective!

This has been such a helpful tool for my child to work through her anxiety. It's also helpful to me, as the parent, to be able to really pinpoint the focus of her anxiety. I gave it 4 stars only because I wish it would ask a few pointed questions (such as how the child felt after the event that made them anxious was over) instead of being a completely open format.

Gentile was a student of Marx and Hegel and he was a well known as a Neo-Hegelian, which, Marx himself was also a Neo-Hegelian. The insidious reason Gentile was written out of history is that the Intellectual Left, the Marxist Left deliberately manipulated the political spectrum whereby they transposed, warped, Leftist crimes to the Right side of the spectrum. This is where the phrase the Fascist, and Fascist Right-winger comes from when in fact Fascism as an ideology is far Leftist, dictatorial, anti-Monarchy, anti-Church, movement. No university professor ever calls the German National Socialists of the 1930s or Mussolini's Fascist party radical Leftists. They always call them the far Right. The intellectual utopians that run our universities fabricated an illusion whereby 'the Right', the Hitlers, the Mussolini's, were deliberately mislabelled to be perceived as everything we know today as evil in 'the Right': white supremacy, eugenics, nationalism, totalitarianism when in fact the inverse is true. These leaders were LEFTISTS. We live in a time where the problems we face come from the secret society of Marxist Leftists. At the philosophical core of these murderous men was the far Leftist ideologies of Socialism and Communism and it had nothing to with what we perceive as 'the Right,' or conservatism.

Like Hitler, Mussolini was known for his oratory and demagogic speeches. Unlike Hitler, Benito was NOT known for his writings!This little pamphlet (basically) at its very core describes Fascism - which was moderately different from the Nazism version... but is worth about $2.00 brand new (and that is being generous). I read it in about ten minutes.

Although these quotations are a fascinating insight into the mind of one of the 20th century's most renowned dictators, the booklet itself is bare-bones to the point of being useless for practical purposes. None of these quotes are cited or attributed in any way that makes them useable or even verifiable. A total rip-off, all quotes that can be found online for free, and shame on me for not obeying the timeless warning, caveat emptor.

the book is extraordinarily disappointing. it does not seem to be professional as it has a yahoo e-mail to contact the publisher.its overly thin which makes it over priced for what you get. Like others have said, its a pamphlet. I got this book to have a copy i could mark up and not care (using it as a primary document)there is no copyright information, no date of publication, no page numbers, and its sketchy at best which makes so the book so its impossible to accurately cite. Its beyond pathetic.On top of all that, why is Hitler even on the cover. I wish i wouldn't have bought this piece of junk.i cannot recommend that anyone purchase this.

This doctrine is more than an ideology, it is a philosophy, a religion with no gods, just priorities. Hopefully more read this book, and more like it. The more educated people become, the less friction they will have. And the more understanding there will be between fascists, and non-fascists.

Worth reading to understand Mussolini's version of fascism. He clearly had a coherent vision, and an almost mystical belief in the State. I found it stimulating because he challenges so many of my own assumptions.

Know yourself, know your enemy. We all know fascism is the enemy of free people everywhere, but we should avail ourselves to their perspective, lest we fall prey to their gambits.

Langston Hughes was born in Joplin, Missouri, went to Cleveland, Ohio, lived for a number of years in Chicago, and long resided in New York City's Harlem. He graduated from Lincoln University in 1929 and was awarded an honorary Litt. D. in 1943. He was perhaps best known as a poet and the creator of Simple, but he also wrote novels, biography, history, plays (several of them Broadway hits), and children's books, and he edited several anthologies. Mr. Hughes died in 1967.Arnold Rampersad, author of the widely acclaimed biography The Life of Langston Hughes, is Woodrow Wilson Professor of Literature and director of American Studies at Princeton University.

read this over the weekend. very friendly and personal. articulate. felt connected to the brother. not too much has changed on the color lines and white supremacy in states, and applaud other parts of the world for looking at black men as human vs states daily trying to dehumanize them. not all whites are racist, but white supremacy I think is used as a distraction and to intentionally anger us. L Hughes overcame a lot and it was a pleasure to read about his travels and the harlem renaisance. My brother, rest in power.

If you don't know much about the life of Langston, then this is a good place to start. Written over 50 years ago, it provides a sanitized glimpse into the life of this iconic American poet. He is skillful not to revealing to many details of his personal life while at the same time giving the reader insight into some key events that helped shape the man we have come to know. Langston was a complicated young man who, from this account, spent a number of years just trying to find himself and his place in society. His writing was more inspired by the down times than by the up times and his adventures both here and abroad far exceeded what I would have expected from a young black many of his day. I would recommend this book for High School reading and discussion, and encourage young adults to give thought and discussion to how Langston was willing to take some calculated chances and explore the world beyond what lay before him.

Published when Hughes was 38, the subject of The Big Sea is the period of his life from 1902-1939. It covers a wide variety of episodes in Hughes' life, with key elements being his travels as a youth, his relationship to his father, and the Harlem Renaissance.I knew his poetry, of course, from all those years as an English major. I have not had the occasion to read any of his prose, and decided to pick this up after reading the collected works of Nella Larsen.There was a lot to engage with in The Big Sea. I particularly liked Hughes' description of the Harlem Renaissance. His tone when he talked about it was affectionate and wistful, but still acknowledged the limitations that it had as a lasting solution. There were many great stories ("never hit a woman") and fascinating details-- reproductions of the whist party invitations, for example.I also really was interested in the way that Hughes discusses his father and the issue of the race. His father left the US (first to Cuba, then to Mexico) in order to avoid race prejudice. His father had nothing but scorn for people of color who stayed in the US and subjected themselves to the inevitabilities of race and class limitations. The anger that this self-imposed exile cost him comes out in his dealings with his son and the way in which he engages with the world around him.At points, it is as though Hughes is meditating on all the different ways that people around him (including him) have used to address the race problem. It is not the most uplifting of sketches, since none of the various paths seem (according to Hughes) to be a good or lasting solution.Well-written, interesting, and with many pointers to further reading.

This expansive, witty, completely surprising autobiography is one of the best books about a young writer in search of himself and his voice since Joyce's "Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man." Thinking of Langston Hughes primarily as a Harlem Renaissance writer is like thinking of Joyce an early 20th century European writer: factual but woefully limited.

Langston Hughes was a wonderful poet and story teller so it is not surprising that his autobiography/memoir is a joy to read. He tells the story of his life by giving us delightful episodes that each read like short stories. Each chapter has the structure of a short story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. Along the way, the reader has to be amazed at the texture and breadth of his life adventures. He lives for a short time in Mexico with his father, in several cities with his mother and other relatives, and then his wonderful sea going adventures in Europe, Africa, and also his stay in Paris. The reader also gets a first hand glimpse of what it was like to be "Negro" in America as well as in other places in the world. The writing is bright and energetic and the book is very difficult to put down. I highly recommend it to anyone who might be thinking about writing an autobiography or memoir.

There is connection with him and his characters, yet a very well laid sense of objectivity in a very tumultuous time. As such books go, this is one of the older ones; the first edition came out early on in the history of MacOS X, as one of O'Reilly's first round of "purple dog" series of Mac books (i.e. purple covers with dogs on them). It's a simple and straightforward book, covering all the basics of Xcode and the properties of Cocoa on both OS X and iOS. Sample code is available on Github. The material is all step-by-step, with examples starting with basic GUI apps, covering both platforms and even the command line; it teaches Objective-C from the level of a basically well-trained programmer, so it's not really a beginner book, but it's enough to get started.I'm writing this after the announcement of Apple's Swift language, mainly to address the question of whether this book is still relevant for Mac/iOS developers. I think it is; although a lot of people are excited to start working with Swift, C++ hasn't been totally displaced by its successors, and I don't think Objective-C will be either, with a quarter century of working legacy code in it. Swift isn't shipping yet anyway, and there's no word on whether the compiler will be proprietary or open source. And it is a bit on the expensive side for its size; it's certainly cheaper to use Apple's materials. But it's a good introduction to the process of Cocoa app design.

I've been trying to get into Cocoa programming for OSX for a few years, and while I've written a few screen savers I've found Cocoa programming hard to get in to. Why? Learning all the libraries and APIs, and how it all ties together, is very daunting (and somewhat confusing), and I haven't had much of a guide.This book is a good guide. It doesn't have everything about iOS, OSX, and Cocoa programming, but there's enough in here for you to understand the fundamentals and start putting together some projects. The book starts off with an introduction to xCode (through the writing of a simple iOS app, then introduces some of the fundamentals of Objective-C and Cocoa Foundation. Each chapter after that introduces another aspect of Cocoa programming. I've enjoyed reading it thus far, and I'm learning a lot. This has satisfied a big need.I'm already a programmer (C/C++, Perl, MATLAB, and some Java), so I can't offer anything from the perspective of someone who doesn't know how to program. I will say I think you'll get more out of this book if you have experience with a programming language, preferably C. If you don't have any experience you should probably get familiar with Objective-C by reading a book about it (Apple has a guide you can download).

Objective-C will be around for many years as Swift continues to evolve into a mature language. Anyone who wants to be a great Apple developer should learn both Objective-C and Swift. Because, if you plan to be more than a hobby developer you will be supporting legacy applications written in Objective-C.That said, Learning Cocoa With Objective-C: Developing for the Mac and iOS App Stores is a great book for anyone coming from another language. The book isn’t difficult to understand but a brand new developer might have a hard time learning Objective-C only with this book. The book covers the basics of Xcode, core parts of Objective-C, and moves into frameworks like Core Location (Mapping), Notifications, and iCloud. At WWDC this year Apple announced major changes / improvements to iCloud that will make the iCloud chapter outdated.Overall Learning Cocoa With Objective-C: Developing for the Mac and iOS App Stores is an excellent book for anyone looking to learn Objective-C to create Mac or iOS applications.

The book will cover the basics to get up and running for developing for the iOS platforms. (Although, really, I can't imagine how many people are looking to target the Mac-Desktop/Cocoa platform these days, as everything is clearly heading to their touch/objective-C platform.) It assumes an audience of non-beginners, and at least some exposure to coding, Object-Oriented concepts, web-concepts, etc.The book walks you through the basics of getting up and running with XCode, and developing for the Apple suite of products (getting a developer account, etc. NOT free to non-students!), and then jumps you in to building projects. If you know C++ or Java, or C#, you shouldn't have too much difficulty with Objective-C.I am JUST starting out with poking around in developing for iOS, but I have been coding or decades, so, this isn't my first time to the rodeo. I think the basic setup and layout of the book and the material covered in the chapters will help a developer get up and running with iOS programming smoothly (although the screenshots could be bigger/clearer). However, this book is NOT for absolute beginners. You should start with something aimed at absolute beginners if you have never programmed before.Overall, I have been working with this book for several weeks, and I am making steady progress. It will be many more months before I have anything decent to show for it, but c'est la vie, such is life. So far, so good with this book, though.4 stars :)

Lancaster, who died in 1994 at the age of 93, was a decorator and designer who specialized in stately homes and their gardens. Her elegant biography?which has all the earmarks of an officially sanctioned work?is, like its subject, something of an elaborately maintained anachronism, in which meticulously described rooms are far more important than the people who inhabit them. Lancaster was born in Virginia. One of her aunts became Lady Astor, another the wife of artist Charles Dana Gibson (and a prototype of the Gibson Girl). After a brief marriage to a Marshall Field heir, she married Ronald Tree, a future Conservative member of Parliament, settled in England and turned her hand to interior decoration. After two sons and Nancy's nervous breakdown, the Tree marriage ended in divorce and she married a Colonel Lancaster, who is described as "a cad." Becker, a contributor to Interview and House Beautiful, built his uncritical bio around his subject's own chatty mini-autobiography, which runs in boldface through the book in much the same way that the words of Jesus appear in red type in some editions of the New Testament. The definitive biography about Nancy Lancaster and growing up in a long-ago era in Virginia, her life in England with second husband Ronald Tree, and of course her interior design talents which culminated in the formation and huge success of the interiors business, Colefax and Fowler.

If you are interested in a comprehensive biography of Nancy Lancaster's life, this offers it. Love the quotes in here by Lancaster. You get a sense of what she was like. Designer Mark Hampton said she was the most fascinating woman he ever met. I found it interesting that a fortune teller told her, as a young woman, that she was going to be a decorator before she even knew what a decorator was. Wish there were better images of room she decorated, but film was grainier back then and not all images are in color. This is a delight to read if you're interested in Lancaster.

This is well written and gives a glimpse into the lives of the very wealthy and privileged in the early and mid twentieth century. Nancy Lancaster is quoted in boldface throughout the text, and it is fascinating to read her own thoughts.This book provides a very flattering portrait of Nancy and her relatives.Becker's book focuses on Nancy's achievements. For example, David Hicks is quoted in the text saying that Nancy was the foremost garden designer of the twentieth century." Well, he's entitled to his opinion--and that's what it is.An opposing view is given in relative James Fox's "Five Sisters: The Langhornes of Virginia," published in 2001. Fox's book presents the family, warts and all. (Nancy is the daughter of Elizabeth, one of the five). Differences in "fact" arise. Becker speaks of the paterfamilias being extremely wealthy, while Fox states that Colonel Langhorne's fortunes declined when the daughters were marriageable young women.Will the real Nancy Lancaster please stand up?

Nancy Lancaster, daughter of one of the fabled Langhorne sisters of Virginia, is a worthy biographical subject on her own. From the time she married until her death at the great age of 97 in 1994, she lived in splendor, most of which she created herself.Nancy was born in Abermarle county, VA in 1897 at Mirador, the plantation of her grandfather, Chiswell (Chillie) Langhorne. She was raised there and in Richmond until the sudden death of her parents when she was a teenager. The lovely Nancy lived with aunts (Irene, who was the prototype of the famous Gibson Girl and Nancy, who became Lady Astor and was the first woman to be elected to Parliament). She married Henry Field, of the fabulously wealthy Marshall Field family, but five months later he died suddenly of a minor operation. Subsequently, she remarried Ronald Tree, American born, but raised in England. The Trees, if possible, were even wealthier than the Fields. Nancy's goal was to live at Mirador, but Ronald's ties and ambitions in politics were all in England. She spent the greater part of her life in England and became renowned for her brilliant decorating of her grand country houses and her skill as a charming hostess.The book is part biography (Becker) interspersed with Nancy's own recollections that are printed in boldface. The first part of the book is excellent in giving a real feel of the very conservative upper class South still recovering from the ravages of the Civil War. Nancy draws vivid word pictures of her family and surroundings. She displays a vibrant wit and sense of humor. From the time of her second marriage forward, the emphasis is on her homes and how she decorated them.Though I am not a big fan of "tell-all" types of memoirs, "Nancy Lancaster" is downright curious in the way factual information is elided or ignored. She was very close to all her famous aunts, yet never mentions when or how they died except for Lady Astor. She states Lady Astor was the "last" of the sisters, and that is the first the reader knows the other four are deceased. Nancy has an older brother, who is mentioned twice in the entire book. We aren't told if he was a black sheep, disliked by Nancy or ran off to South America. Nancy seems to have a fond relationship with Ronald Tree but for unknown reasons divorces him in 1945 and marries (briefly we suppose, as he never is mentioned again) "Jubie" Lancaster.All readers will not enjoy the heavy emphasis on how she renovated, decorated, and beautified all her homes and gardens. The book lacks enough pictures to show adequately what she has done. I found the book highly readable, but unless you have an interest in early 20th century English society, stately homes and Virginia, you will be disappointed.-sweetmolly-Amazon.com Reviewer

Robert Becker has written a fascinating book on the life of Nancy Lancaster which I have just read in the summer of 2000. It is even more timely with the new biography of Sister Parrish just out this summer. Becker is an extremely good story teller, with a fine ability to capture the life and times of his subject. My family is from the same area of Virginia, and he has the piedmont Virginia people described in the most believeable way, including expressions of the eras covered. The technique of incorporating Nancy Lancaster's own account in the body of the book is most effective. I was worried in reading the introduction that it might be intrusive, but not so. The book made me think of Eleanor Brown of Mcmillan and Company in New York, and Sarah Hunter Kelly - all decorators of the same generation. Hats off to Robert Becker!!! Nicholas Bragg

A phenomenal textbook containing a wealth of powerful statistical and sociological information, along with many well-edited court opinions pertinent to the issues discussed (which include pornography, prostitution, rape, domestic violence, and abortion, to name just a few). The book also serves as a resource in comparative law, both domestic (insofar as it compares race equality under the law with sex equality under the law) and international (insofar as it compares U.S. approaches with those of other legal systems, such as South Africa and Canada, as well as supranational bodies like the United Nations). The author's bias does admittedly come out from time to time in the notes, and some of the materials are somewhat dated. However, a 3rd edition is forthcoming and may be able to earn that 5th star!
