This is a cookbook with a difference - as well as pages of enticing recipes this book gives a great insight into all that is this unique place! Makes you want to jump on the next plane to NO and savour all the delights it has to offer! I literally could not put this book down the first night I got it. This book was brand new, no wear, no writing. I have enjoyed reading.

The history, food, and music are what draw me to New Orleans. This covers two of the topics in a well executed manner. This is one of the books that sits out, not buried in the shelf.

Well written, beautiful photographs and easy to follow and delcious recipes, Mr. Elle is a gift to us all and I am grateful he is preserving and recording our history through food. Quintessentially American.

The book is a good read. If you really want a treat watch the TV series as well. It all goes together and the recipes are excellent and get you in the mood.

Great book. Bought it as a gift but looked through it first, might have to order another one. The Tremendous series was awesome and it inspired me to order the book

It is a justification of life while completely acknowledging the dark, all written to Knausgaard's new child.A beautiful and profound read that anyone would be honored to have, had their father written it to them."Life clatters within the living, with all their mentalities and psychologies, and when they die and the clatter within them subsides, it continues in their children, and one comes to understand that the clatter was the main thing, the clatter was the point, the clatter was life."

My favorite writer _ enjoying being inside his world- these Autumn Winter now Spring "seasonal" books moves.the focus from himself that we read about in the Struggle books to his relationship with the outside world _ this book is like a long letter to his youngest daughter about events happening right before and after her birth including his wife's depression. But also the day to day reality of parenting and.just living - - he always brings the mundane fully alive -

Wow. I was already a big fan and I was enjoying the seasonal "quartet", but this volume really threw me. The first 2 had set me up to expect more brief chapters detailing random/general facts & explanations of how the world works to his youngest, unborn daughter- but this one was a departure. In just under 190 pages and 3 long chapters (+ Epilogue), Karl Ove does what he does best depicting his day in minuscule detail to totally draw in the reader, but this time he also made a pretty big reveal. I was rapt and had to put the book down often because there are several utterly beautiful passages which I had to absorb, and then there were many more difficult passages, when he shows us how after putting off for months, he had to finally make a decision to save his wife and help her become well. It's a truly heartwrenching ordeal, and Karl Ove again paints himself as a pretty awful guy, but balances it out with all the time he puts into caring for the children while his wife is away and making mistakes like leaving the house with the baby but no money or milk.

The author’s voice -like a whisper in the ear - lures the reader into a world where the familiar and prosaic take on magical qualities. To share this author’s vision is to suddenly be made aware of new layers of one’s own experience of life. Truly a remarkable book; it makes me want to read more of his work.

A beautifully written short prose poem to his very ill wife and in utero and new born child.

I am a Knausgaard fan and have read all his work. This is perhaps his best. It is quietly beautiful, deep, and heartbreaking. For those new to Knausgaard, start with this book! The insights and observations he makes about parenthood, his relationship to his wife, and life in general will stay with you. I will be re-reading this again as there is so much in this slim book to consider.

Karl Ove is father and mother and breadwinner! He revels in the mundane and is able to look into the mirror and give his readers an unprecedented level of introspection with such minute detail yet make it all very interesting. For his children's sake, I wish that he would stop smoking.

What I really enjoyed about Untouched was the message it sends, about not caring too much about the bad things that happen to one in life, but more about where we go and what we do going forward, how we can make things better using the God given tools we're provided, not regretting that everything isn't exactly as we would have liked. For Sienna, not knowing where her mother is or who she can trust, confrontations with even more dangerous enemies...all make her frequent attitude problems somewhat forgivable.(even though I wanted to shake her sometimes,saying " Not everything is about you.") While Sienna is still a bit too full of teenage angst, she's learning to not pity herself and to fight against that feeling, even if it seems that the entire world's against her and that the foundation of her life keeps shifting.(But she is only 17 and I love her character). In this book, Sienna learns that things won't get better by themselves, and that she's the only one who can make things better... and more importantly,that she really isn't alone... She has Zack and she has others who care about her.I really enjoy Robert Crane's writing style and the snapish wit that he attributes to his main character Sienna. She can be a bit mean, but there are times when I can't help laughing to myself because the character on the receiving end deserves it. And then there are times they don't, and it frustrates me that she has no seeming ability to curb her tongue.The story is very action packed... almost too much action at times. The Poor girl keeps getting beaten, burned and she can't catch a break. (Luckily, she heals quickly from her injuries each time.)I really enjoyed the direction Robert Crane took the story in this book. Lots of intrigue, a bit of romance with Zack, heaps of X-Men like superpowers and meeting her aunt.... I love it.Jack Murphy

While I did enjoy the story line of the 'Girl in the box' series, the author has some grammar and spelling issues throughout all the books. I took off a star rating for that because it made the book more difficult to read. Just when you become fully engrossed into the visual images the story portrays, the grammar and/or spelling issues appear and break the reader out of the submersion. Several times there were sentences that seemed to be two thoughts in one as if he changed how he wanted to write that particular line mid-sentence and just kept going. Maybe Robert J. Crane just needs a better editor, proof-reader?

This segment of the story continues Sienna's introduction into a vastly wider world. One of the major struggles for her is obviously going to be dealing with her "gift" and how hard it is to finally be released from the captivity of her home only to find that she is even more limited. She must find a way to come to terms with the fact that she will never be the girl in the red dress out on a date, holding hands with a boyfriend. Touching is death and she will be forever on the outside looking in.There is more pressure put on her in this book. Pressure to join the Directorate, to follow directions, to think before acting. In the midst of all this she is trying to deal with the guilt of people having died because of her actions, as well as the actions of Wolfe, who has taken up residence in her head.There are still people who are looking to snatch her up, and they are brutal. When you heal from wounds that would kill normal humans then the fighting takes on a whole new dimension. I still think this author is amazingly good at constructing fight and action scenes.The story moves at a quick pace and, like the first book, left me wanting more.

Addicted!Okay, so our hero is a snarky self centered teenager. I hope she grows out of it! But I really enjoy the witty banter. The action is well written, and the overall arc is intriguing. The author gives you just enough information to keep you guessing and reading.Well worth the time and price to read. There is a large cast of characters that you just want to learn more about. Even the "bad guys" are interesting!This is a feel good story with some really dark parts, may not be suitable for sensitive young readers. It does touch on traumatic topics so I would recommend parents give it a whirl before handing it over to younger readers. I only say this because I have nieces and my sister has chastised me for recommending some books to them that upset them.I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys some good combat scenes and likes a plot that always keeps you guessing!

Bought this for my teenager at the recommendation of his percussion teacher. The kid has lots of band/orchestra percussion experience but just got a drumset. He's been very enthusiastic about working through the grooves, reading the book's explanation for each, watching the video demo of technique, then practicing with the playalong tracks. Apparently the playalong tracks are a lot of fun, because he often picks them over video games.There's a code in the book that he used to download the audio to his phone, more convenient than playing them off the DVD. One suggestion for players who wear earplugs or muffs: You'll want a pair of isolation headphones to hear the audio at reasonable volume over the drums.

You cannot go wrong with Tommy Igoe. His personality and delivery will hook you from the jump. You cannot manufacture personality, so despite all the other products on the market that teach drums, this one pulled me right in and made me feel like I am sitting in a room with Tommy rather than watching a DVD. I guess you'd have to experience it to understand, but he's just a terrific teacher and you feel like you are being totally supported in your learning.

This is an excellent set. It has dvd ancd(but be aware, the cd tracks are in mp3 format. They will not play in a regular cd player unless it has this feature. You download them to you mp3 player or a cd player with mp3 format. Tommy Igoe starts you from the beginning, but it is helpful if you have some drum basics. Groove 2.0 IS FOR ADVANCED PLAYERS. Get the combination from amazon cd/dvd 1.0, then move onto 2.0 I highly suggest both cd&dvd packaged together. Amazon stands by their products. So again if the cd does not play, you download to your computer, or play there. The dvd will play on any dvd player. It is by far an excellent resource on all the different types of grooves you can learn with examples of who to listen to-example James Brown_funk groove etc. This was well done and very comprehensive. Great book and DVD. My daughter is using it and she is getting good. I will minus 1 star and wish Tony would update the styles more in tune to todays music. Still a very good book worth the investment in money and time to learn how to play drums.

Not only is this package a great deal, it's a great deal on two must-have products. The book is written in the same casual, personable manner in which Tommy speaks on his DVDs, which keeps things lively and light even as the grooves get progressively more difficult. I am a neophyte drummer, but Tommy's clean charting style makes everything seem easy. Furthermore, the play-along pieces on the DVD are perfect; playing along with your favorite artists is one thing, but this DVD allows the beginner to really feel as if he or she is part of the band rather than just robotically following another drummer. Finally, Tommy's emphasis on grooves over fills (which come in time as your creativity and skills develop anyway) ensures that the student isn't distracted by the flashy stuff before learning the real business of rock-solid drumming.If you're even remotely interesting in learning to play drums or expanding your existing drumming skill-set, buy this package deal NOW before the publishers realize it's worth three times the price.

The only thing I did not like about this product was that I was expecting a cd, but had to download it online. I like the fact that it covers just about all you need to know on the drums.

CD didn't work. DVD didn't show the variations. But overall, a good book.

I've always been a fan of Origami, especially when I was a kid.I brought a lot of the "basics" with me to adulthood, and i'll randomly create something when out at dinner or when I have a spare piece of paper in my possession. haha.My niece has shown an interest in things I've created in the past, and she also has taken a love to the arts & crafts that I've shown her..... Because of this I figured i'd pick her up a couple origami books to broaden her "crafty" gene. lolAs with any Origami books, there's parts that are going to be more difficult than others.That's just how it goes. I mean, If it was all easy.... it wouldn't be an art.(I'm not going to deduct a star because someone has a problem making a certain fold)Practice Practice PracticeMany of the folds, once you figure out what the illustration is trying to portray, are used many other times in other Origami pieces.Once you get the hang of it, and figure out which way the curved arrow is telling you to fold, it'll get easier and easier.I think they did a great job with this book. It's excellent for someone wanting to give Origami a shot.Since it has paper included, it basically has everything you need to get started!With the exception of writing utensils for decorating, if necessary......... or perhaps tape if you get frustrated.All-in-all.... a great set.

I bought this as replacement to a previous version by the same company to use in individual counseling sessions with grades K - 8. It's straightforward, user friendly, and accessible enough that with some help, fourth graders are able to complete some of the easier designs within a 30-minute session while students in older grades are generally able work through designs independently. My only gripe is that there are more flower designs in this book which aren't met with the same level of enthusiasm for most students at that age level as are the animal designs.

I wish I had listened to the reviewer who said this was difficult even for adults. I did origami as a kid, so I wanted to try it as an adult. The book says beginner and more difficult projects but doesn't identify which are which. I tried the very first project and it didn't come out right. Tried another one, and can't do it. The directions are very difficult to understand. I am going to get the papers and do it from the many free videos on you tube. There are alot of papers--that is the only good thing I can say about this kit.I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated. I thought this would be relaxing--it's not. Don't even consider this for a kid. I wish I had gotten the one that specifically said for beginners. This experience has really turned me off to the whole project. Don't waste your money unless you are already experienced in this craft.

Overall I would have to say that this kit is OK. It is a good beginners kit. The printed and metallic paper is neat, but this paper is not very user-friendly. I prefer other brands. As for the book, it contains some great ideas, and the diagrams are, for the most part, easy to use. However; there is very little consistency to the written instructions; it seems like they sometimes skip a few steps where there should be more guidance, and add in extra, unnecessary instructions in other places. And a lot of the projects involve scissors, which I personally do not like. Overall, it is a good practice kit for the price for the beginner.

This is a great value getting a good origami book (the instructions are good and the book itself is not flimsy) and a lot of paper to get started with. Enjoyed by all ages. Even used this with children with difficulty sitting down and attending to task (ADHD) and it's fun and they surprised me being able to sit still. Great for rainy day or keeping busy when you need to have quiet time.Family fun!

Box looks good. Granddaughter liked it for her present.

This is a really nice set. The paper it comes with is very high quality, the instruction book is easy enough for my seven year old daughter to follow. The box is sturdy and will last for a long time refilling with other paper once this is used up. It made a great addition to her Easter basket.

My granddaughter loves it! I think the adults like it, too. Fun and develops the small muscles and keeps the brain active.

Although this is purportedly written by a teen-ager, it is simple-minded and much more suited for 9-10 year old ADHD children. The problems are those of pre adolescents. As a parent of a 14-year old, I can attest that we have long been over this ground. If your child was diagnosed ADHD back in the early grammer school years, this is old hat for you and your teen-ager. There are no new coping and growing skills for your teen-ager in this book.This paper-backed book is also very overpriced for the content. Five minutes of reading - not much substance. Skip it - there are better ADHD books for your teen agers.
