Cool book! Bought this as a gift to mid century home collectors and they seemed to love it.

Great reference book.

This mightly little brick of a book is absolutely incredible. It's divided up into sections (such as glassware, textiles, ceramics, etc) and the content is bar-none. I will repeat my review of Decorative Art 60s when I say this is an "indespensable sourcebook", because it truly is.

Stunning, comprehensive, HUGE, book encompassing all the high-concept decorative arts of the 1950's.If you're into Midcentury Modern, you need this book.

During the reading of this book I became excited about the possibilities and by the time I finished the book I couldn't wait to get going. And did. In just a week I have over 50 pins, half are other peoples and half are mine. I'm now reading a different book, by a different author on Twitter. Well written book with everything I need to know and do, just like this book was for Pinterest. I will open a Twitter account, but I just don't have the enthusiasm for it that I have for getting going on Pinterest, sparked by this book. Actually, this book said more that I found encouraging than I get from the Twitter book, so Michelle Held's writing and information is partly to blame for my enthusiasm!!

I've been using Pinterest for about a year and learned by trial and error. It worked alright but there were a lot of functions that I knew little about. It taught me many features I didn't know. So it's a greater resource for beginners and those wanting to become more Pinterest savvy. It's very easy-to- understand and incorporates screen shots that take the guesswork out of the instructions. I found the information on using Pinterest to enhance a business particularly interesting and insightful. Definitely a worthwhile resource for anyone wanting to better utilize Pinterest.

Father Martin tells a great and personal story -- And he sure does pray a lot.A former GE financial analyst and Wharton grad, he is now an editor-at-large of America magazine, a popular media commentator, and a religious commentator for Comedy Central's The Colbert Report. Father Martin (along with his fellow Jesuit, George) travels through Israel and Jordan and areas in between and gives their perspectives on the locations they visit, faith, and prayer, and he adds in lighthearted moments.His pilgrimage has 'produced good fruit' for us in the form of this book. In addition to the spiritual travelogue and educated discussions on things like Greek phrases, I enjoyed his zingers, such as "After a series of improbable detours that took us to the desert... to a lonely monastery, and 'to the edge of heat stroke'"In Bethlehem they visit a site that Catholics find holy, but Russian Orthodox adherents say that the site is a few blocks away; in instances like these, I enjoyed his travel realities and discussions on faith. Speaking of reality, there are instances of travel when stresses develop between friends no matter how close people are, such as the time Father Martin and George - and an empty listerine bottle - glowered at each other at the River Jordan in a "suddenly seemingly smaller" car (Note to File: do not splash a guy with water in the polluted Jordan River).I also relished his insights into "baggage" (and how a baked good can trigger a memory) as he recalls his college years - a time that he felt was a period of unholy sillyness. But on the trip, he realizes that his time at Penn was not devoid of spirituality ("sometimes we close the door to our past, thinking that we have progressed.") Additionally, at a dreamy Capernaum, Father Martin asks why Jesus moved to Capernaum and not Jerusalem? (maybe he liked the beach?); and he shares the lesson of Bartimaeus ben Timaeus (which reminded me of a Kotzker Rebbe query on preaching and ministering to a person: and the importance of personally knowing the person and study partner.) All in all, no matter your religious beliefs, this book gives a piquant perspective on travel, history, and faith

I've read several of Fr. Martin's books and this one is possibly the best one of all. I've always wanted to visit Israel and take in the sites and reading this book, I feel like I'm there with him. He writes with such humor, wit and insight that it is hard to put this book down. Like the author says, this isn't a theology book, but a book about his travels seen through the lens of his faith (as a Catholic and Jesuit priest) - but his writing is "down to earth" and accessible. He isn't writing it just for Catholics or Christians necessarily, so I think anyone with an interest in the Jesus of history and/or Jesus of faith will find something to like here. I've never met Fr. Martin but I think he would be an excellent teacher and a fun person to travel with - and all of that comes out in this book. I just wish he could write books more quickly so we didn't have to wait so long between them - ha ha!

Jesus: A Pilgrimage begins with an introduction that clearly lays out what the book is and more importantly, what the book is not. I point this out because, I generally go in with preconceived notions of what I expect or want from a book. Fr. Martin is quick to point out that this book is not a theological discussion on who Jesus is, nor is it a Bible commentary. This book, however, is a look at Jesus, as we see Him in the Gospels, through the viewpoint of Fr. Martin's education, experience, and a recent pilgrimage to the Holy Land. If we keep this in mind when reading the book, we can give it a proper review.Each chapter is laid out in the same format. Fr. Martin first mentions the place he is going to visit. He then describes the journey there. Details from this include the actual process of travelling to the location, scenery along the way, and bits of the culture and environment he encountered. Then, comes the heart of each chapter - his reflections. Mixed with theology, history, tradition, and Fr. Martin's wisdom and wit, we put ourselves in the exact moment and location of Jesus and try and picture what it must have been like for both Jesus and those around Him. We then end with the Scripture passage which served as the basis for the site Fr. Martin visited.The most interesting chapter in this book to me was entitled, "Nazareth." In this chapter Fr. Martin talks about the "Hidden Life" of Jesus. This term refers to the period of Jesus' life, age 12-30, that is absent in the Bible. Fr. Martin, like many, are drawn to this period of Jesus' life because they imagine it is a lot like our lives. "None of us is going to be preaching and performing miracles - at least not as Jesus did - but all of us live everyday lives, as Jesus did in Nazareth, being taught and cared for by our parents, loving and squabbling with our families, playing with our friends, learning what it means to be an adult, and in time earning a living." I never thought of Jesus in this light, but it does make sense. In this chapter, I also learned about just how small and poor Nazareth was. Knowing this, it really puts into perspective the disparaging remarks people make regarding Nazareth. It also shows you the environment Jesus grew up in, and influenced his parables.Fr. Martin is an excellent storyteller. He does a fine job painting pictures of the places he visited, and he draws out details in the Gospels that one could easily miss. There were, however, parts of this book that I didn't enjoy. The beginning annoyed me a little when he waffled about wanting to go to the Holy Land. (Really what Christian, wouldn't want to see the place of Jesus?!) I also got bored in the beginning reading about the trek to get to each of their destinations, and would think to myself, "Hurry up and get there." However, I eventually accepted that that was the nature of this book as a personal pilgrimage. It would be incomplete to ignore the journey and focus solely on the destination. Those complaints aside, I still enjoyed the book. It was quite interesting to see Jesus, the Gospel passages, and the modern day Holy Land through the eyes of Fr. Martin.This book was provided to me for free by Harper Collins in exchange for an honest review.

As a small business owner, finance is not my strong point. I suspect this is a similar feeling among other small business owners. Financing shouldn’t have been something I was only now considering. I should have started with this as a key component of a well thought out financial plan. Like many others, I assumed that the main business aspects would need to be arranged and organized and I would figure out the financing as those issues came along. Sutton’s and Detweiler’s book showed right away that jumping into those financial tasks and issues can save a business owner time and money, but can also help to avoid potential pitfalls later.Chapters in the book focus on how to finance your business, using credit cards as finance options, and financing retirement, among others. What I especially liked was that the advice isn’t coming solely from a finance perspective. The advice, while sound and knowledgeable, is also extremely realistic and focused on what “real” people are doing and thinking. There are sections on using family to finance, reverse mortgages, etc. The book covers topics that are relevant and timely and topics that a typical financial advisor just isn’t going to cover. Go ahead. I dare you.As for you ladies that are not Southern, please take a peek and know we are all the same at heart.

I'm a big fan of Celia's writing and snatch up everything she writes so if you like funny sarcastic and yet authentic Southern writing, then this book will keep you laughing until your ribs hurt. Don't sweat it- just buy it and read it. Then share it because it's too flipping funny to keep to yourself.

What a hoot! Celia Rivenbark never fails to put in writing exactly what I think in certain situations but never dare to say. Her take is honest,straight forward,and hilarious because we have all been through the same situations and met these type of people and are annoyed,but have no idea how to handle the anger and ill will they create. Celia has no problem with that at all. The best part is you can read one chapter,get your chuckle for the day,the come back later for more and not miss a beat. She takes the everyday trials and tribulations and turns them upside down.Not sure if the best part is about line jumpers or the Christmas newsletters,both had me laughing so hard I cried. Just like George Carlin and Bill Cosby, she makes everyday,mundane things very funny,and with no four letter words,as she is a southern lady....I think the best part of any of her books is that you can re-read them in 6 months and still laugh just as hard....

As a native southerner I get a little scared when other natives write books about us. Well not me ALL of us. But the "us" that make us look bad.I let my friends read it first. Clearly I had nothing to worry about. From start to finish a poignant and accurate depiction written in glorious southern color. I hope my beach free wifi holds out long enough for me to finish the downloads of her other books.

This is a book of hilarious anecdotes that are spot on! -- & are best read out loud with one or more girlfriends! I have given this book so many times that I keep a few on hand. For friends confined for a (seemingly) long period of time & recovering from surgery or illness I put together a gift bag or basket of small, inexpensive but useful items--to be opened one a day. I always include this book..laughter IS the best medicine!

I love this author. Any southern woman would benefit from reading any of her works. It brings a sense of home to us southerners and the author can capture everyday scenarios with so much humor and wit. She will keep you coming back.

As big fans of Celia Riverbark, who makes her home in the Wilmington, NC area near where we live, it is a joy to read her latest creation. She continues her quirky, good natured and sharp witted look at life with this latest gem in her string of hits. If you are not already a Celia fan, you will be after reading this latest effort. Highly recommend!

I've read several of Celia Rivenbark's books and they are amusing but I wonder if she's run out of what made her early books funny. There's nothing wrong with this book but if you're looking for laugh-out-loud stories, this just doesn't make it. I really like a humor break from time-to-time so I certainly will continue to at least look at her future publications with the hope that her former spark re-appears.

As a geometry tutor, I use this book. It lays out postulates, theorems, proofs, and deductive reasoning in a coherent way. I particularly like the way it teaches proofs, and illustrates the various tangent, secant, and other issues. Geometry can be confusing, but repitition of the ins and outs of geometry found in this book can help make the geometry-resistant student a master.
