This is the most powerful self-help book that I have ever read. It is very thorough for all stages of any individuals life and provides suggestions for working through stages where an individual has encountered problems in developing as a whole person. This includes means of working through compulsive behaviors after the initial work of treatment and introduction to 12 step programs has been done. It also includes advice to recognize when the assistance of a paid professional may be required...anyone can have difficulty in resolving a past event(s) that was particularly traumatizing. For me, the work was not easy and I did have to follow the outlined steps exactly. As a result, my life and behavior have been permanently transformed for the better.

I'm a therapist and purchased this, on the advice of a colleague, to use with my clients.In general, I see where the author is going and feel the tasks of the book would be good for anyone to go through. I think this will be very useful for people and worth engaging in.My main complaint is that the reading level is fairly advanced. I wanted to use this with a 61 year old client who has roughly a 6th grade reading level, and there is no way she could get through it. I wish these authors would consider writing an alternate version for those with a lower reading level.

Still working through the exercises, healing takes time and patience. Great tool for education and information on letting go of traumatic childhood memories and upbringing.

This is an outstanding book for individuals who don't know what to do with their past and who had to be adults at 8 and 9 years old. Especially children who had no childhood. It teaches us how to work through the stagnation of mentally being 8 o 9 in alot f areas in our lives. Just because I didn't get what I needed at that age, nurturing, love, being held and not being called a dummy all the time. I have the wrie to be angry, mad and engraged. I also have to realize that my parents weren't capable of giving me what I needed. They just were where they were. I have to learn that I deserve more in life and I have to cut the umbilical cord and start nuturing myelf with the help of counseling.

My son has high functioning autism and has been very resistant to reading. He loves books but does not want to read them. Until now. We found our first Bad Kitty book, Bad Kitty Drawn to Trouble, at the Goodwill a few weeks ago. We read it and he was hooked. Asked for more. A few days ago we remembered he had a gift card to Amazon so this is what he chose to buy. Today the books came and I showed him them. I went into the kitchen and a few minutes later I hear him sounding out words and laughing. I wish I could post videos. The absolutely joy in his laughter brought me to tears. He wants to learn to read just so he can read these books. He actually picked buying these over a video game.I am grateful.

Bad Kitty Does Not Like Video GamesI'm fairly certain that you do not even need to have ever owned a cat to enjoy these books with your children. The humor Nick Bruel uses will make everyone in your family laugh... provided they have a sense of humor. In our home there have been many occasions where the reader has been laughing so hard they found it hard to keep going... and to keep breathing. One of my all time favorite parts is where the author explains all of the necessary precautions one must put in place prior to bringing Kitty to the vet. These include things like body armor, bandages, and notifying the local police along with the Air Force. He even manages to make you laugh about hairballs.Our 8 year old son enjoys these books so much that if we are not up to reading to them at the end of the day he insists on cracking one of the books out and reading them to us. That in turn has little sister extremely excited about her reading as well.Our munchkins have always enjoyed having books read to them, and since they were able to read on their own have always enjoyed reading. However, the joy the Bad Kitty books bring to everyone of us in the family has already made for some exceptional bed time story memories that are just that much better. I remember what my favorite books were to read with my parents when I was younger. I'm certain these will fall into that category for my children.

My 5 year old and I love Bad Kitty books. Unfortunately this one did not make us laugh or seem silly at all. We're used to rolling on the floor in tears laughing. This book seemed more serious and taught kids that playing to many video games makes you miss out on other fun stuff. Overall it was good just not what we're used to from a Bad Kitty book.

Bought this for my kindergartener who was struggling due to lack of interest in books, but he is a bit of a rebel, and loves cats, so this really helped peak his interest and I was able to get him to read the whole thing. Will be buying more of Bad Kitty books

Another hit! Sometimes even good parents allow our kids to play too much iPad or video games. This is a great lesson for children to remind them to play outside. My daughter loves the stickers that are included.

The video game bad kitty book is only 24 pages. This is way way shorter than the other ones in the series. Not long enough for a bedtime read. Had to buy another e book. Wish I hadn’t purchased the video one. It was fun and in color but its plot and detail was far more abbreviated than what we expected.

Great book for kids.

Super cute book. If you already love the series, you'll love this one too. If you haven't read any Bad Kitty books, this is as good an introduction as any. Cute story, lovely artwork and the serie's trademark sense of humor. My toddler and older child both enjoyed this book.

I have been a huge fan of Undertaker since I was a kid. This book is filled with beautiful pictures of Undertaker information about his 25 year old career: how his career began, his moves, his time with the Ministry of Darkness, his infamous Wrestlemania streak, his title reigns, his battles with other wrestlers like Mick Foley, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Brock Lesnar, HHH, Hulk Hogan, Shawn Micheals, and Kane. This book also had information about his infamous manager, the late and great Paul Bearer (R.I.P.). This book had Undertaker's loss at Wrestlemania 30 against Brock Lesnar where I went and saw him lost to Brock Lesnar. Sadly, Undertaker is now retired. This sweet and scary book is a buy to Undertaker fans. Thank you Taker for the moments in WWE and someday that you will be inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame.

This item looked even better in person than it does online. It has amazing photos and timeline information of all the important pieces of the undertakers career and is the perfect gift for an avid fan. I gave this as a gift to one of my best friends who is the biggest undertaker fan I know for his birthday.One thing I was slightly disappointed with was when it arrived I had opened the package and there was a significant mark of something blue smudged on his chin on the cover...I don't know if it was marker or something else, but luckily I was able to completely rub it off with a tissue that had a little water on it, and it didn't get damaged in any way. Next time be careful of how this item is shipped. I'm very Happy with the quality of this product though and so is my best friend.

The Undertaker is my absolute favorite Wwe superstar so when I saw this I just had to have it lol. This book is awesome, it covers the Undertaker's career from 1990 to present time. There's lots of fantastic photos and facts (many of which I didn't know) Also It arrived in great time, If you are a fan of the Deadman you will love this! I'm am extremely happy with this purchase and definitely recommend it!!

Imagine the WWE Encyclopedia book and you are looking at a similar layout. However, This book is dedicated to the entire career of the Undertaker. It's a great book and really goes into a lot of detail into many aspects of his career. I wish they'd do it for a couple of other superstars as well.

There is a wonderful collection of blocks all named with various women's names from the publishing company and friends who've helped in the creation of her books. You can have these 40 blocks photo copied to any size you like, either at home or at a commercial copier. They are all made from 4 identical sections that are combined to make one block. Unlike some of her blocks in other books, these have fewer pieces overall so are quicker to make and put together. In addition to the blocks there are 8 quilts that use the blocks. I like that the blocks are all in the same style, 4 sections, so I can use any block I want in the layouts for the quilts giving me more than just 8 quilts from the book. Also I love when most, if not all, of these blocks are joined they create secondary patterns. Like most of her books there is a tutorial for those who are relatively new to paper piecing. Even someone who has never done it before can learn from this book. In addition to how to paper piece, she gives good information on how to choose colors that make the blocks "Bright and Bold", grain considerations and how to estimate yardage if you change the size of the blocks. There is even a two page spread that shows all the blocks in color and in the 4 piece finished layout so it's easier to choose the one you would like to do. There are only 2 things I would change about the book. 1. Even though her pieces are big enough, they are also tight enough that if you don't line them up exactly, they don't cover the entire space. I solved this problem by making my pieces 1/4 - 1/2 inch bigger than she lists. Yes, it's extra wasted fabric, but my time is valuable too, so I don't have to be as precise when placing the fabric and having to take it off and do again if I got it wrong. I use these trimmings to stuff toys, so it's not really wasted. 2. The book is not spiral bound, so it's hard to keep open. I solved this by having a commercial copier/ binder remove the binding and make it spiral bound. This costs at the time I did it around $5 - $6. The last time I did it was 2007. The one problem with that is I can no longer read the spine as it has been removed making them all look alike on the shelf. But I now can stand the book on typing stand and see the directions as I work without the book closing.

Carol Doak has got to be one of the best author, instructor and role model. I am very fortunate to have her for an instructor in paper piecing. You can purchase her dvd's and learn how to paper piece. She is the best instructor. She is very meticulous every step of the way. If you need to go over a certain part of a video you can just rewind to where you want to be. I have many of her books on paper piecing and I love every single one of them. It is like a psycholdelic journey. Since I love bright colors and busy patterns, it is a fun book....and it would totally drive a traditional old fashioned quilter nuts.

This book is full of awesome designs with easy to understand directions and full page patterns for copying. I am going to have a lot of fun with this one.

I selected Barbara's Block, pages 24-25. I printed of the block patterns, not realizing till I went to sew the blocks together, that the block in the book is not exactly 6" each way. One is slightly smaller, makeing problems for my blocks. A random measuring of other blocks shows that some are ok and others slightly off. Created problems for my quilt. It was badly edited.

the only thing I'd do better is make it easier to copy the images for producing proper counts for quilt top making. (ie. spiral bound to lay flat on scanner or copier) Other wise excellent easy to follow instructions and color pictures

These are wonderful patterns, with clear instructions and lots of hints and suggestions from the author. So many combinations of stars are possible, even split stars in one square. What fun!

Carol Doak is a great paper piecer, and a great teacher. Her instructions are clear and easy to follow. I have several of her books, and consider them all a treasure. I have used her patterns over and over. Well worth the money. The seller was very accurate in his description. The package arrived on time, and in good shape.

Terrific book!! Gives a point of view not really found often in literature: Women actually serving in war zones. Shows the original motivations, pre-9/11, of three very different women for signing up for the Indiana National guard. All served deployments in the middle East, and had a variety of experiences. Their stories are inspiring, heart-breaking, fascinating and horrifying, and brought home clearly to me that war is hell. These women are from different backgrounds and either enlisted originally for the extra money every month or the college tuition benefits or both. At the point of their enlistment, the U S National Guard troops had not been used in extended conflicts on a long term basis. 9/11 and the ensuing conflicts in the Middle East changed that. Helen Thorpe is a masterful author. I highly recommend this book.

Chilling look into the consequences of war in general and of women warriors in particular. While it is easy for the politicians to stand in front of the cameras and talk about how inspired they are by our troops and their sacrifice, it's entirely another to take respnsibility for the incalculable disruption and damage done to their lives and their families. As a society, we will be paying for these ill considered and poorly managed military actions for decades to come. This book is a disturbing peek under the hood of what happened on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq through the eyes of three women who did what most of cannot even imagine and would never attempt.

No matter how much I read or watch about this subject, I never feel that I understand more than the tiniest sliver about it. By profiling these women, Thorpe personalizes the experiences of serving in these wars in a compelling way. These three women are far from perfect but each tremendously likeable in her own way. The end is the most interesting part of the book—how each of them adjusted to life back in the States. Each of them had similar difficulties making the transition.When the combat ban on women was lifted, one of the women profiled, Desma, says that women have already been in combat, but maybe now they would be trained like the men, something that had been denied her.One of the women says, that she “realized they would all be counting, possibly for the rest of their lives, what the last decade had cost. What it had cost the people who had gone away (to Afghanistan and/or Iraq) and the people they left behind.”Thorpe briefly mentions the epic rates of alcoholism and depression and suicide of the returning soldiers. She never hits you over the head with anything but illustrates the damage done, as well as the positive things the women took from serving.

She continues her compelling personal journalism dive into the lives of American women caught in the endless war/economic inequality/cultural conflict that defines so many lives in America. This one about the women drawn into military service as an escape from poverty, only to be sucked down into a life- and family-destroying maelstrom of repeated deployment, lying recruiters and officers, and gender discrimination and harassment in the US military. And how their courage, determination and soulful friendships kept their heads above water -- somewhat.

This was an extremely moving book. Ms. Thorpe tells the story of three women in the Indiana National Guard who served in Afghanistan (and two of them also served in Iraq). They have to deal with the problems all of our soldiers have had with being pulled out of their normal lives at home and sent to fight in these two wars. In addition, they have to deal with the problems of dealing with being women in a traditionally male situation. Yes, they volunteered for their jobs. However, they didn't volunteer for the discrimination they faced. In addition to the problems all of our soldiers face, two of the women are mothers, which entails additional burdens, as they try to balance their life as a soldier with their lives as mothers and grandmothers. This book was very well written, and their stories fascinating.BTW, do not believe the negative review posted about the "lack of AK-47's in the US Military". Obviously, the reviewer has not read this book. The book clearly explains that the job of two of the women in the book was to clean and repair captured AK-47's that were then given to the local Afghanistan forces to use, due to their dependability.

this was a book club selection. it was not one i was looking forward to reading. i would highly recommend to any book club that enjoys philosophical, political, socio-economic, feminist, economic issues that have no black/white answers. this book has altered my thinking to some degree concerning my biases against the military and my snobbishness about peoples' life decisions. i am a west coast somewhat liberal thinker, and i really did need a new lens through which to view middle american situations and life styles.in terms of writing style, i am not a great literary judge. there were times when i thought there could have been a bit more editing, but by the time i finished the book, i felt that the details probably contributed to a more precise as well as holistic understanding of events and characters.

These pictures present water drops; soap bubbles; water condensing and evaporating; snowflakes, frost, and dew; and water as a prism. The paragraphs of text that accompany the images read like extended captions; they describe what is being pictured and briefly comment on the phenomenon taking place. I picked this book up at the local used bookstore, where I found it in the photography section rather than the children's science section. As someone who enjoys macro photography, I'm always on the look out for new things to photograph with my macro lens.This book is great for both macro photographers and children. Although the author is a photographer my trade, he has done his research making the book a great learning tool for children, students and photographers. The pictures are amazing, very well-printed and take up large amounts of space (if not the entire page) of the already large pages of the book.Descriptions of different water phenomena are also very well-written. Obviously written with younger readers in mind, the writing is very informative and educational.The author also shares very brief descriptions on how to conduct all the experiments in the book. Most of the experiments are accessible and fairly simple so it makes a great thing to try out for your kids or students or perhaps yourself.

Excellent pictures and quality writing. Once we started reading this together my boys (7&9) were hooked. They started reading it on their own because of how well-written and interesting they found the book to be.

Good nonfiction book; I use it as an anchor text to teach my students informative writing.

Short and to the point chapters teaching all the different abilities of water. We are using it as a living science book for our homeschool

This is a WONDERFUL book!! My kids are using this for their school science program. They are having so much fun with the experiments that are included in the back of the book. The detail in the pictures and the simplicity of this whole layout is just wonderful!

I love this book. The photography is beautiful and strongly reinforces the concepts. I have done many of the experiments with students from third grade through middle school, and I am considering using them with younger levels. The notes in the back of the book help budding scientists duplicate the experiments and enhance their understanding. I highly recommend this resource.

My son and I love this book. It has been given a gifts because we like it so much. I used it as a science unit with him for 2nd grade, not that he knew that. It give examples of little experiments that you can recreate and the pictures are wonderful. We originally checked it out as a library book, then bought it because he loved it so much.

Beautiful book, but I cringe to read it because of the high gloss paper. It catches a glare from everything and it feels rubbery in your hands.

The photographs are the highlight of this short book about water. We were even able to create some science experiments from this. Beautiful.
